Morning Sail Camp (Ages 7-10)
Times: Monday – Thursday 9 am - noon. Check calendar on website for weeks offered
Program Cost: $150 Members/$190 Non-Members
Sailboat used: Opti
We hold this class in the morning to take advantage of the generally lower wind speeds for our younger sailors. In this class, youth sailors learn the basic skills to sail a small boat independently. Sailors are taught the parts of the sailboat, the points of sail, capsize recovery, and basic knot tying. Students are divided on skill level and instruction is tailored to that level to ensure students stay engaged and continue to enjoy their skill development. Our young sailors can take this class multiple times and will be divided based on skill levels while working with the instructors to improve their sailing abilities.
All students will always wear life jackets. Instructors, either in the student's boat or on a safety boat, accompany the students. All instructors are experienced sailors and have learned to sail in the DLYC Sailing School.

While reinforcing all the student's previous sailing skills, these sailors will focus on on-water instruction, steering the boat, proper sail trim, define their upwind and downwind sailing techniques and basic right-of-way rules. Most students upon completion of multiple sessions of this course will be introduced to racing.
